GN solids control provide solution for oilfield drilling waste disposal.

Oil and gas wells cannot be drilled without creating waste. However, with good waste management practices, the amount of waste can be reduced. By far, the greatest volume of waste generated in the drilling process is drilled cuttings. The first step is to use good solids control equipment, such as the GN linear motion shale shaker, mud cleaner, and decanter centrifuges.

When operated properly, the solids control equipment removes drilled solids from the mud, maintaining the rheology and thereby decreasing the need for dilution. Good solids control equipmentoperated properly also yields drier solids. Both decreased dilution and drier solids reduces waste and increase profits for the operator.

What is slurry pump?

A Slurry pump is a type of centrifugal pump in physics principle that increases the pressure of liquid and solid particle mixture, through centrifugal force (a rotating impeller) and converts electrical energy into slurry potential and kinetic energy.

There are 2 kinds of slurry pump, horizontal type and vertical type, for vertical type pump, there are submersible slurry pump and underwater pump. Submersible slurry pump is widely used for drilling fluids transferring, underwater pump is used for fluids transfer. Horizontal slurry pump is also used for drilling slurry transfer, just the installation method is different to meet different mud tank size.

What is vertical slurry pump?

Vertical slurry Pump is the cantilever pump structure of single stage and single suction, with the bearing housing, supporting, intermediate pipe connecting the pump hydraulic components, the water is discharged out from the drain pipe parts, pump impeller is for semi-shrouded with the agitating vane on the vane extended, the main characteristic of this pump is the underwater pump shaft parts have enough rigidity, the impeller and pump shell have no bearings, no shaft seal, which can transport the greater medium of solid particles. Positive Displacement Pump for Decanter Centrifuge

When to use a centrifugal or a Positive Displacement pump (“PD Pump”) is not always a clear choice. Usually we use a positive displacement pump to feed for decanter centrifuge, it is called single screw pump.

The major benefit to use a positive displacement pump other than centrifugal pumpis that, it will not break the fine solids to smaller, so the centrifuge can separate the solids easily. Centrifugal force of centrifugal pump will cut the solids to smaller, it is not good for centrifuge’s operation.

How to operate a screw pump when feeding to decanter centrifuge?

1 Full fill the pump chamber with drilling fluids , if the media is too viscosity, then inject into other liquids; Inject the mud from the pump inlet connection, and rotate the pump by hand along the running direction of the motor to make the mud full fill the suction chamber.

2 Open the screw pump inlet valve and outlet valve (the valve is fully opened to prevent overload or no load suction), start the motor.

3 The pump should be started under the condition of fully opening the Inhale row valve and bypass valve to minimize the start load. Gradually close the bypass valve after the motor reaching the rated revolution.
