GN solids control has designed and exported many sets of 1000HP land rig solids control system to worldwide clients for oilfield drilling, we have many existing design for their different requirement. Several clients called it “mud handling system”, “mud tank system”.

9 A complete set of electric control system, explosion proof grade IP56, other electric specs and explosion proof class are available.

Once we get the rig layout, we can arrange for the layout of mud tank system and submit process flow drawing and layout drawing of the solids control system. Our design may take the following aspects into consideration.

1 waste solids discharge: we will try our best to simple the solids discharge operation, and save land area of solids discharge, sometimes a screw conveyor is applied to keep the mud system in compact structure and convenience solids discharge.

2 transportation convenience:

 All the handrail and walkway are foldable and can be moved together with tank body, you do not need to disassembly it.

3”Mud gun for sale

GN solids control manufacture 2” mud gun and 3” mud gun, and we have several sets of mud guns in stock.

There are 2 type of mud guns, the common one is top tank type, sometimes we design it as bottom tank type. Top tank mud gun is controlled by staff on the tank, the difference between GN mud gun and NOV mud gun is the nozzle numbers, we make to 3 nozzle numbers, which can jet more place in the tank so the agitating effect can be better.

What is the difference between tank top and tank bottom mud gun?1 tank top mud gun

 Tank top mud gun is usually with function of agitating, together with mud agitator, they are important equipments for drilling mud tank and mud mixing tank. And how many sets of agitator you have for the mud mixing tank, usually how many mud guns you have. But it also have exception, for example, when the tank room is very small, you have no room for the agitator, and the tank is not so large, you can use a mud gun instead, it is much cheaper, needs smaller area to install and convenient to operate, also do not need to use electric power, but use pressure to work, and you do not need to buy a lot of spare parts such as gear box, bearings for the mud agitator. Anyway mud gun has a lot of advantages but it can not replace mud agitator totally, the agitating effect is not so strong as agitator. We need to use them together to benefit from both of them.

2 Tank bottom mud gun

Tank bottom mud gun also called inner tank mud gun, its function usually not agitating, but transferring and mixing line. It transfers the mud from mud mixing tank to another tank.

Where is the pressure come from ?

For high pressure mud gun, the pressure came from mud pump, for lower pressure mud gun, the pressure came from mixing pump, it can mix and transfer drilling mud to another tank.

MUD MIXING AND ADDITIVE SYSTEMS

A good mud mixing and additive system should be a jet-shear mud mixing system, it must has three functions, shearing, jet mixing and drilling fluids additive. GN design and produce such multiple function system.

GN mud mixing and additive system can be mounted on a separate skid then connected with a mud mixing tank, or they can be mounted on the skid of the tank. The latter way is a compact structure of mud mixing unit, and the former way can be more flexible to move the mud mixing unit from one place to another. But you do not have to move it all the time, the mud mixing pipelines which is controlled by butterfly valves can reach this target, too.

Venturi hopper with a mixing pump is the most simple way for the mud mixing unit. Centrifugal pump can be replaced by shearing pump, then you call it jet-shear mud mixing system.

Jet shear mud mixing systems 

Jet shear mud mixing systems are designed to use shear pump to efficiently mix solids with liquids. Jet shear systems ensure efficient and mixing of soluble polymers and bentonite used in water-based drilling fluids, therefore eliminating “fish eyes”. Drilling fluid yield and gel strength properties are instantly obtained with hydraulic shearing of bentonite or organophilic clays.

The addition of liquid additives is made easy with the incorporation of an injection port into the jet pump. This port is capable of handling liquid additives such as; lubricants, polyacrylamides, and oil-wetting emulsifiers. By incorporating an in-line mixer, the operator is given the choice of imparting low shear into the drilling mud. When the appropriate level of mixing is imparted into the drilling mud, polymers are efficiently used, therefore lowering additive costs.

Workover rig equipments and operation

Repairing an oil well sometimes requires a workover. It is commonly called by several names such as completion rig, workover rig, or pulling unit.

In many cases, workover implies the removal and replacement of the production tubing string after the well has been killed and a workover rig has been placed on location. Through-tubing workover operations, using coiled tubing, snubbing or slickline equipment, are routinely conducted to complete treatments or well service activities that avoid a full workover where the tubing is removed. This operation saves considerable time and expense.

 Companies that supply this type of equipment are Key Energy Services, Pool Workover Services, and Basic Well Services.

 Of all the problems that can occur during production, three stand out the most: equipment failure, wellbore problems, and saltwater disposal.

 WELLBORE PROBLEMS

 Sanding, formation damage, paraffin accumulation, oil-water emulsions, and corrosion are common wellbore problems.

 GN workover rig solids control system is mainly used for sanding problem. The system can separate large particles sand from the drilling fluids so the drilling mud can be recycled for drilling and “kill”the well. The working principle is to clean the drilling mud by 4 phase cleaning, they are shale shaker, desander, desilter, decanter centrifuge. But usually for workover operation, sometimes you can use a shale shaker and centrifuge only, because the sand size is not so large, but it needs to separate finer particles than oil& gas drilling.

Mud tank union and fittings

When you built a mud tank, you may need a lot of mud tank accessories, such as mud tank union, fittings, valves, connectors, flanges, pipes, etc.

Mud tank unions have been used for years in petroleum solids control systems around oilfield drilling rigs all over the world.  Drilling mud fluid systems connecting the steel tanks to the pumps need leak proof and quickly detachable connections for large diameter pipe 4” to 16”.

There are basically two types of unions used.  The air type with the tube being aired up seals the pipe.  The other type is a large solid o-ring which locks down on the O.D. of the pipe as the hammer nut is tightened.

Air union is also called pneumatic union, since GN do not use such union in the mud tank design, we would like to introduce hammer union mainly.

Hammer union

Hammer unions are one of the most common “quick connection” methods used in the oilfield for joining together components in a temporary pipe work system. They also have expanding applications in fixed installations and also for industrial purposes.

A hammer union comprises a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage. The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end. The small seal is conveniently an O-ring and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union, thereby preventing the seal assembly from falling out of the threaded end when it is inverted.
