Shale shaker vibrating motors maintenance

GN solids control choose Italy Oli brand vibrating motor for all our shale shakers. Vibration motor is important components for shale shaker, I will introduce briefly about vibrating motor installation & maintenance.

1 How to install vibrating motor ?

 (1). Before installing vibrator, turn off and lock out/tag out all energy sources to mounting structure according to ANSI standards。

(2). If using a cutting torch or welding, test atmosphere for gas level or dust content.

(3). Make sure mounting surface is strong and flat, 0.25 mm acros vibrator feet. (This will minimize internal stress to vibrator casting when tightening mount bolts.

(4) Make sure mounting surface and vibrator are clean and free of debris, paint, and oxidation.

(5) Before installing vibrator onto mount, apply thread sealing compound to all bolts.

(6) After the vibrator has been operated for 10 to 20 minutes, check bolt torque. Tighten if necessary

2 How to  maintain  vibrating motor?

(1)Clean dust on shell regularly

(2)Before operating, must check the bolts to confirm whether there is loose or not. Otherwise, we must screw bolts tight before running shaker

(3) Inspect the cable, whether there is wear, hold down, crushing, etc.

(4) the vibration motor should be under good lubrication during operation:

Motors before fixed on shaker, the bearing is filled with SKF specific lubricate grease, the temperature range is -40 ~ 200℃

During running, every 2000 working hours user should makeup LGHP2 lubricate grease once. Every bearing can not be filled over 25.8g.

A spring-loaded plunger and reversible pawl provide a ratcheting action during movement of the operating handle. A full 180 degrees of movement is possible in both directions. Depending on pawl setting, moving the handle in one direction turns the jack screw to raise or lower the screen frame, while in the other direction the jack screw remains stationary during handle movement. The spring-loaded pawl permits the operator to switch the direction to either raise or lower the screen frame, as required.The angle of the discharge end of the screen frame is infinitely adjustable within the equipment’s available range.

(1)Inspect discharge duct connection on side of hopper for leaks. Tighten connection and/or add silicone sealant to prevent leakage.

(2)Inspect cover on unused hopper discharge connection for leaks. Tighten connection and/or add silicone sealant to prevent leakage.

(3)Using a water hose, wash off accumulated process material from screen frame, interior of hopper and AWD angle adjustment components.

(4)Excess process material in these areas may impede angle adjustment of screen frame and can reduce screen frame vibration if the frame bottoms out on the buildup.

(5)Check for and remove any accumulation of process material or other obstruction in feeder interior. Feeder blockage may cause excessive splashing and uneven distribution of slurry onto the screen bed.

Gas buster

Gas buster also called poor boy degasser or mud gas separator, which is used for oil and gas drilling. The description on oilfield glossary is “A simple separator vessel used to remove free or entrained gas from fluids circulated in the wellbore, such as mud used during drilling operations. The gas buster typically comprises a vessel containing a series of baffles with a liquid exit on the bottom and a gas-vent line at the top of the vessel”.

is an important equipment to prevent well kick during drilling, so the production process should be strictly controlled. The process control including the following aspects:

1 Surface preparation

Steelwork:

Before all paint actions will be taken the surface to be coated must be clean and free from contamination. Sharp edges shall be rounded or smoothed to radius 2 mm. Hard surface layers shall be removed by grinding before blasting. All welds shall be fully sealed.

Abrasive Blast Cleaning:

As abrasive steel grit or copper slag can be used. If oxidation has occurred between blasting and application of paint, the surface should be reblasted to the specified visual standard.

Surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning process, should be ground, filled, or treated in the appropriate manner.

Because of the long distance shipment from China to Latin America, and the high import tax of mud tank, the economic way is to make the tank by local mud tank manufacture and installed with GN equipments. We will have a technician for instruction of installation.

Agitator mixer uses an impeller to mix and suspend the solids using both axial and radial flows, and by utilizing low shear mixers to suspend and mix mud additives particle size degradation and polymer shear. Unlike centrifugal pumps or mud guns. The Mud Agitator is relatively low shear and low energy device, so it’s easy to operate and inexpensive to maintain. This will ensure that mud additives are homogeneously mixed to prevent dead spots. Agitators will keep the active mud system flowing even when the pumps are disengaged and keep the weighting agents in suspension.

Rotary rigs drill the vast majority of wells today, including all medium and deep wells. The rotary rig consists of four major systems. These include the engines, and the hoisting, rotating, and mud systems.

General of drilling mud(drilling fluids)

Common drilling mud is made of bentonite clay. A heavier drilling mud can be made by adding barite. Various chemicals are also used in different situations. The drilling mud liquid is usually water but is sometimes oil-based. Drilling mud are described by weight. Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon. Average bentonite drilling mud weighs from 9 to 10 ppg. Heavy drilling mud weighs from 15 to 20 pounds per gallon. The heavier the drilling mud, the greater the pressure it exerts on the bottom of the well.

Fluid is circulated while the drilling proceeds. Powerful pumps move the fluid down to the pipe, through the bit and back to the surface, carrying the cuttings and other debris with it. Thus, on a rotary rig , drilling can be continuous as stopping to bail the cuttings is no longer required.  The drilling mud also stabilizes the walls of the hole.

Drilling mud is stored in steel mud pits beside the rig. The drilling mud then flows down through the hollow rotating drill string and jets out through holes in the drilling bit on the bottom of the well. The drilling mud picks cuttings from the bottom of the well. It flows up the well in the space between the rotating drill string and well walls.

Last month GN shipped 2 sets of 800gpm mud cleaner to a China Government Company for HDD project. They checked our complete mud system taken to CIPPE, and would like to request 2 sets similar one with small changes.

Now we have standard HDD mud system( mud cleaner) with standard equipments and specs for  150gpm, 350gpm, 500gpm, 800gpm, 1000gpm. Clients can make smaller changes according to his separate requirement.

To make some changes, such system can be used for water well drilling, coal bed methane, geothermal well drilling, diamond drilling, core drilling etc projects. So sometimes clients ask us to make a system with 2 functions( can be used for 2 different projects, and can meet the flow rate requirement for each project). So they can save cost for another set mud cleaner.

How to design the mud tank for the mud cleaner?

1 confirm type of the mud tank, trailer mounted, skid mounted or Hydraulic lift type.

2   confirm the dimension of the mud tank

  You need to consider 3aspects, 1 required storage capacity  2 transportation limit in Client’s country 3 international shipments limit, by container, by bulk cargo or by flat rack container.

Folded for transport Dimension: LxWxH=4000x2400x3800mm, the user did not need to disassembly any equipments or parts, just fold the walkway and hand rail to the tank before transportation from one site to another. It is very convenient.

 How do 150gpm portable mud cleaning system work?

A: 50YZ40-10 Submersible slurry pump suck mud from the mud pit and feed to GNZS85-2 Shale shaker from the backside buffer box.

B:Shale Shaker first panel fixed with API 60 screen. Fluids from the slurry pump will flow to screens for solids screening. Fluids with particles only smaller then 250microns will go to tank 1# Compartment.

C:Shale Shaker second screen panel fixed with API 120 screen. SB3×2-12 Centrifugal pump will suck fluids from 1# Compartment and feed to 2x4inch desilter cones.The dirty mud will drops down to second screen panel for drying from the cones nipple,the cleaning fluids with particles under 20microns overflow from desilter pipe to the 2# compartment.

Drilling cuttings management system for sale

The first step in managing drilling wastes is to separate the solid cuttings from the liquid drilling mud. Once solid and liquid drilling wastes have been separated, companies can use a variety of technologies and practices to manage the wastes. For some applications, drilling wastes are solidified or stabilized prior to their ultimate management practice. The management technologies and practices can be grouped into three major categories: waste minimization, recycle/reuse, and disposal.

GN solids control equipments can make the first step of solids control, to clean the drilling mud and reuse for drilling rig.

If the solids collected by the shale shakers are still coated with so much mud that they are unsuitable for the next reuse or disposal step or if the used mud is valuable enough to collect as much of it as possible, the solids can be further treated with drying shakers utilizing high gravitational separation, vertical or horizontal rotary cuttings dryers, screw-type squeeze presses, or centrifuges. The cuttings dryers recover additional mud and produce dry, powdery cuttings.

Our equipments can do a series job for drilling cuttings management, firstly we use high G shaker to dry the drilling cuttings and recycle a small part of the drilling fluids for re-use. Most of the drilling cuttings are dried and transferred to vertical cutting dryer by screw conveyor. The dry the drilling cutting is, the better performance can reach by the cutting dryer.

After processed by vertical cutting dryer, the large solids are separated out, and sent to Cement Plant or brickyard or used for construction industry. The separated fluids are pumped by screw pump to a high speed centrifuge for further process. Finally the clean mud can be re-used for drilling rig or re-used to make new mud.

What is Sand Control?

By Oilfield glossary, sand control is one of the process of well completions. “The installation of equipment or application of techniques to prevent migration of reservoir sand into the wellbore or near-wellbore area. In weak formations, sand control may be necessary to maintain the structure of the reservoir around the wellbore. In other formation types, the migration of sand and fines into the near wellbore area may severely restrict production. Each of these conditions requires different treatments. The principal sand-control techniques include gravel packing and sand consolidation.”

Gravel packing involves the complete placement of selected gravel across the production interval to prevent the production of formation fines or sand. Any gap or interruption in the pack coverage will enable undesirable sand or fines to enter the producing system.
