Positive Displacement Pump for Decanter Centrifuge

When to use a centrifugal or a Positive Displacement pump (“PD Pump”) is not always a clear choice. Usually we use a positive displacement pump to feed for decanter centrifuge, it is called single screw pump.

The major benefit to use a positive displacement pump other than centrifugal pumpis that, it will not break the fine solids to smaller, so the centrifuge can separate the solids easily. Centrifugal force of centrifugal pump will cut the solids to smaller, it is not good for centrifuge’s operation.

How to operate a screw pump when feeding to decanter centrifuge?

1 Full fill the pump chamber with drilling fluids , if the media is too viscosity, then inject into other liquids; Inject the mud from the pump inlet connection, and rotate the pump by hand along the running direction of the motor to make the mud full fill the suction chamber.

2 Open the screw pump inlet valve and outlet valve (the valve is fully opened to prevent overload or no load suction), start the motor.

3 The pump should be started under the condition of fully opening the Inhale row valve and bypass valve to minimize the start load. Gradually close the bypass valve after the motor reaching the rated revolution.

Drilling fluids Decanter Centrifuge in Mexico

GN exported our drilling fluids decanter centrifuge to Mexico, Except for traditional model decanter centrifuge, GNLW452S middle speed decanter centrifuge, GNLW363G high speed decanter centrifuge, We also have 4 new model drilling fluids decanter centrifuge.

GNLW452S is developed based on our traditional model LW450x1000, after improvement on the design and performance, now its bowl length reach 1100mm(100mm larger than previous one) ,actual treating capacity can reach 40m3/h, and max bowl speed can reach 2200rpm, with all other features of middle speed decanter centrifuge.

GNLW363G is developed from GLW355x1250 model, after improvement, the bowl diameter is 5mm larger and bowl length is 20mm larger than before. Now the actual treating capacity can reach 30m3/h, and the bowl speed can be choose by using various size pulleys. The max bowl speed it can make is 3900rpm. Different with other suppliers, GN showed the actual treating capacity( process rate) on the paper, not the nominal processing rate 40m3/h.

GN new model drilling fluids decanter centrifuge compared with MI-SWACO drilling fluids decanter centrifuge:

GNLW364VFD is similar and large than SWACO 518. The bowl size of 518 is 356 x 1422mm, the bowl size of GNLW364G is 356x1510mm, the bowl length is more than 518 centrifuge. And the centrifuge is precision-balanced for smooth operation over long periods at speed of 1800 to 3900rpm, generating centrifugal forces up to 3000G.

Geotechnical drilling is drilling which is often related to the construction of a structure such as a building or an oil rig. It can be part of the construction process as well as part of the investigation process conducted on site before the structure is built.

Commonly used methods

Depending on ground conditions and required drilling depth, core drilling or RC drilling can be the methods of choice. SPT or Standard Penetration Tests are performed by recording the number of hammer blows needed to drive up a sample tube to certain depth in to the ground. This would indicate the relative density of the soil.

 How to process the mud produced by Geotechnical drilling?

The mud produced by Geotechnical drilling is very less, it depends on the length and the core diameter. Usually its treating capacity is only 5m3/h or less, but it can not be discharge away directly to the environment because of strict environment protection regulation.
