How mud tank works, it is a very easy question, but it contains some good questions behind, so we get all these resolved. First we should know the feature of mud tanks, than the components, how it works in the solids control system, what the main fuction is, last but not least how to clean the mud tank.

Mud Tank Feature

A mud tank is an open-top container, typically made of steel, to store drilling fluid on a drilling rig. They are also called mud tankmud pits, because they used to be nothing more than pits dug out of the earth. The mud tank is devided into Square tank and Cone-shaped tank according to the shape of tank bottom. The body of the tank is made of welding the steel plate and section, using the flat cone-shape structure or the corrugated structure.

The mud tank surface and the passage are made of the slipping resistant steel plate and linearity netted steel plate which is produced by the professional factory, the mud tanks are made of the side steel pipe, all of the structure can be folded without barrier and pegged reliably. Centrifugal Pump

A centrifugal pump is a roto dynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the pressure of a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are commonly used to move liquids through a piping system. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from where it exits into the downstream piping system. Centrifugal pumps are used for large discharge through smaller heads.

In some situations, packing material is not adequate for sealing a centrifugal pumps shaft. One common alternative method for sealing the shaft is with mechanical seals. Mechanical seals consist of two basic parts, a rotating element attached to the pump shaft and a stationary element attached to the pump casing. Each of these elements has a highly polished sealing surface. The polished faces of the rotating and stationary elements come into contact with each other to form a seal that prevents leakage along the shaft.

Liquid Solids Separation Process
1. The 150YZ250-40B Slurry Pump Feed GNZS150-3 Shale Shaker from Slurry Pit.

2. In the first phase the Liquid and Solids passes over GNZS150-3 Shale shakers with 40mesh Screens to remove debris and larger particles. The debris can include: grass, roots, leaves, cans, plastic, rags and bottles. Solids Size≥0.41mm will be removed from the liquid

3. The Liquid with solids size≤0.41mm, with the above debris removed drops into an isolated section of the tank(Compartment 1) where it is picked up by a 150YZ250-40A Slurry Pump.

4. This 150YZ250-40A Slurry Pump. moves the slurry to the second phase, feed liquids with solids to ZQJ250x3 Desander(10” Cones).

5. Here the liquids with solids is pumped through the de-sanding Hydro-cyclones, which removes the solids above the 75 micron size.

6. The overflow from these hydro-cyclones drops into a second isolated tank section(Compartment 2), while the underflow is discharged from the trough of the ZQJ250x3 Desander. Continue reading
