M-I SWACO has been awarded a substantial multi services contract inclusive of drilling and completion fluids, drilling waste management, filtration, wellbore clean up tools, vessel cleaning and related services .
This contract is six year (with option for two additional years) and begins June 2010. The revenues is expected to result in approximately $800 million over the life of the agreement.
This contract routinely services 6 to 10 drilling rigs offshore Cabinda, Angola in Blocks 0 (shallow water) and Block 14 (deepwater).

Oil and natural gas corp. today declared the finding of three oil and gas this month, it has approved that they would invest Rs 3241 crore in developing Cluster-7 marginal fields in the western offshore.

ONGC said it discovered gas in a well drilled in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Oil and gas in a separate well in shallow waters off the Andhra coast.

Besides oil was discovered in Gujarat block, a company press statement.But ONGC did not give estimation of it.

To invest the discovered oil, the company board approved a capital expenditure of Rs 3241.03 in the first phase of development.

In the first phase, they plan to install four new fixed well platforms and drilling of 20 development wells from which the cumulative production of oil and gas for 16 years. And the production is expected to be 9.73 million tons and 4.52 billion cubic meters.

In their plan, the project is completed in 35 months later, and the first oil is expected in March,2010.

If you want to know why is removing solids from drilling mud so important, we can get more questions, but these questions help us to solve this question.

Firstly, we should know where is the solids from.

HA, when we drilling, the drilling mud take them out.

What is the mud’s function?

OK, so we get one more question, what the mud do in solids control system, i.e. what is the mud’s function. You can see How Drilling Mud Work In Solids Control System And Drilling Rig that I write before. I will list the main function again:

Remove cuttings from well
Suspend and release cuttings
Control formation pressures
Seal permeable formations
Maintain wellbore stability
Minimizing formation damage
Cool, lubricate, and support the bit and drilling assembly
Transmit hydraulic energy to tools and bit
Ensure adequate formation evaluation
Control corrosion (in acceptable level)
Facilitate cementing and completion

And then we can find the answer: We must get high quality drilling mud to ensure the drilling process.

COST of drilling mud and environment friendship

But why don’t we produce some new mud, here we go, I have the same question.

The answer is only one word—COST. The cost of produce new drilling mud is higher than this, it is just an economic choice.

Removing solids from drilling mud limit the cost and what’s more important, it’s good to the environment.

Following is 1 type of solids discharge model decanting centrifuge.

Two Drilled solids discharge centrifuges, with suitable feed pumps, capable of running in continuous operation, suitable for:
a)Drilled solids discharge mode or barite recovery mode,
b)All types of water based or at a later date oil based well fluids,
c)The drilled solids discharge decanter centrifuge should process fluids with densities between 9 and 20 ppg; there may also be a need to process fluid densities up to 20.0 ppg with possible addition of Hematite
d)Decanter Centrifuges design will be variable speed type to handle high and standard feed rates.
e)Feed rates expected are + 60 gpm (25/7.5 HP) for low volume and + 250 gpm (50/15 HP) for high volume centrifuges
