Drill cuttings are separated by shale shaker, decander, desiler, decanter centrifuge, and collected by screw conveyor or vacuum unit , for further separation of vertical cutting dryer & decanter centrifuge.

drill cuttings separation

drill cuttings separation

In an ideal situation, all drill solids are removed from a drilling fluid by solids control equipment on a drilling operation. The two primary sources of solids are chemical additives and formation drill cuttings. Drill cuttings are contaminants that degrade the performance of the drilling fluid. If the drill cuttings are not separated, they will be ground into smaller and smaller particles that become more difficult to remove from the drilling fluid.

Most formation solids can be removed by mechanical means at the surface. Small particles are more difficult to remove and have a greater effect on drilling fluid properties than large particles. The particle size of drilled solids incorporated into drilling fluid can range from 1 to 250 microns (1 micron equals 1/25, 400 of an inch of 1/1000 of a millimetre).

Coal Bed Methane (CBM) is natural gas contained primarily (about 90% -100%) of methane (CH4) found in coal seams. Methane is also the major component in petroleum natural gas (about 70% – 90%) that is widely used today. CBM is generated from the microbiological process or thermal process in the coal seam and recognized as one of the cleanest fossil fuels. Indonesia has one of the largest CBM reserves in the world with a potential 453 trillion cubic feet (“Tcf”), more than double the country’s natural gas reserves. The South Sumatra Basin, the largest CBM basin in Indonesia, is estimated to contain in-place resources of approximately 183 Tcf; and the Kutai Basin, the third largest CBM basin in Indonesia, is estimated to contain in-place resources of approximately 80 Tcf (SPE, 2004).

CBM shale shaker

CBM shale shaker

GN has exported many sets of mud tank system to Indonesia for CBM project. The technique to exploit CBM is different with that applied to the fossil natural gas, while both share the common in terms of marketing and utilization. Simply, CBM is exploited by drilling shallow wells into coal seams, dewatering the seams, extracting the methane from the seams and finally compressing the methane.

When design the CBM mud tank system, you should consider the following points:

1 shale shaker inlet method, usually the CBM well is lower than oil drilling well, maybe they will not use overhead manifold, but they have a mud pit and a submersible slurry pump to shale shaker.

2 fine particles, CBM drilling may contain much fine particles, most of clients will use high speed centrifuge.

3 Mud tank height, it should be a little lower than oil well drilling mud tank system.

GN solids control is specialist of solids control equipments for rotary rig in China, we have various kinds of mud equipments in stock, welcome to inquiry us.

Rotary rigs drill the vast majority of wells today, including all medium and deep wells. The rotary rig consists of four major systems. These include the engines, and the hoisting, rotating, and mud systems.

General of drilling mud(drilling fluids)

Common drilling mud is made of bentonite clay. A heavier drilling mud can be made by adding barite. Various chemicals are also used in different situations. The drilling mud liquid is usually water but is sometimes oil-based. Drilling mud are described by weight. Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon. Average bentonite drilling mud weighs from 9 to 10 ppg. Heavy drilling mud weighs from 15 to 20 pounds per gallon. The heavier the drilling mud, the greater the pressure it exerts on the bottom of the well.

Fluid is circulated while the drilling proceeds. Powerful pumps move the fluid down to the pipe, through the bit and back to the surface, carrying the cuttings and other debris with it. Thus, on a rotary rig , drilling can be continuous as stopping to bail the cuttings is no longer required.  The drilling mud also stabilizes the walls of the hole.

Mud circulation system for rotary rig

Drilling mud is stored in steel mud pits beside the rig. The drilling mud then flows down through the hollow rotating drill string and jets out through holes in the drilling bit on the bottom of the well. The drilling mud picks cuttings from the bottom of the well. It flows up the well in the space between the rotating drill string and well walls.

Welcome to contact GN solids control if you are interested to apply for our distributors in Venezuela. GN solids control is a young but fast developing company and we are solids control specialist in China. We have exported many sets of drilling mud cleaning and recycling system to South American regions, for example, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, etc.

solids control system in Venezuela

Perhaps the most important thing to know about Venezuela is that it is an oil exporting country, the fifth largest in the world, with the largest reserves of conventional oil (light and heavy crude) in the western hemisphere and the largest reserves of non-conventional oil (extra-heavy crude) in the world.

GN manufacture complete line solids control equipments for the drilling rig( shale shaker, desander, desilter, mud cleaner, vacuum degasser, decanting centrifuge, mud pump, poor boy degasser, mud gun, mud agitator, mud mixer, mud tank), and we can provide a complete solution on drilling waste management( high G dryer, decanter centrifuge, screw pump, vertical cutting dryer, mud tank, etc). As government policy is more and more strict on environment related on drilling, our equipments are more and more important recently.

All of the foregoing sets the stage for showing just how extremely important the country’s conflict over oil is. At the most overt level, the conflict between the Chávez government and the oil industry is one about who controls PDVSA. Beyond that, the specific issues that control is being fought over have to do with the company’s efficiency, its internationalization program, its outsourcing and subcontracting practices, OPEC membership, and special oil contracts.

PDVSA, State owned company in Venezuela

PDVSA has a production capacity, including the strategic associations and operating agreements, of 4 million barrels per day (600,000 m³). Officials say production is around 3.3 million barrels per day (520,000 m3/d) although most secondary sources such as OPEC and the EIA put Venezuela’s output at least 500,000 barrels per day (79,000 m3/d) lower.
