In oilfield drilling mud separation,The larger the centrifugal force, the finer the separated solids, so three types of speed decanter centrifuge can get according to separating factor.

a)     Low-speed oilfield decanter centrifuge: it is also called “barite recovery” centrifuge. Its separating factor is 500~700. To low-density solids, its separating point is 6~10μm. To high-density solids, its separating point is 4~7μm. This kind of centrifuge can be used for recovering barite.

b)    Medium-speed oilfield decanter centrifuge: its separating factor is 800 or so, solids of 5~7μm can be separated, so harmful solids can be separated from the mud, so that gravity and viscosity of the mud can be controlled. Most drill team will choose this kind of centrifuge at present.

c)High-speed oilfield decanter centrifuge: its separating factor is 1200~2100 or so, separating point is 2~5μm, it can remove harmful solids, control mud viscosity, it is usually connected with low speed centrifuge to make up a dual centrifuge system(See figure 3). In the system, low-speed centrifuge is installed at the first grade, barite separated
from it is discharged into mud tank to be recovered, liquid is drained into a surge drum first, and then be sent by a pump to high-speed centrifuge; the solid separated from high-speed centrifuge will be discharged out of the tank and the liquid is back to recirculation system. “Dual centrifuge system” can remove

API RP 13C is a new physical testing and labeling procedure for shale  shaker screens. To be API RP 13C compliant, a shaker screen must be tested and labeled in accordance with the new recommended practice.

The new procedure is a revision of the previous API RP 13E, which was based on optical measurements of the screen opening using a microscope and computer analysis. Under API RP 13E, screen designations were based on individual manufacturer test methods, producing inconsistent labeling.

Because there are such a variety of both standard and unique applications, choosing the correct decanter centrifuge is often more of an art than an exact science. Determining the correct machine style and model size requires a thorough understanding of the application and very often sample testing. The more a customer knows about their process and the results desired, the more helpful it is. And when a customer calls or e-mails, we would initially focus on determining the following:

  • Description of the liquid phase and the solid phase for the drilling mud management system.
  • Total liquid volume of the system and amount of available process time and / or required process flow rate
  • Quality of required liquid phase / phases – targeted concentration of impurities
  • Amount of solids that need to be removed from the given liquid volume
  • Targeted dryness of the solids
  • What the customer wants to achieve

From this simple calculation we can often quickly determine which style of liquid / solid separation is most applicable for the application. 1,Can you adjust the deck angle on your shale shakers ?
The shale shaker deck angle adjustment is: 0°~3°, following picture is an unfinished equipment we are making for our indian customer,we will give you the tool for adjustment.

2,Can the top screen be the same size as the bottom or is this not necessary ?
This is not necessary,actually,we design it according to your treating capacity,for yours,the top screen is smaller than the bottom screen.

SEPARATION by VIBRATORY SCREENING
One method of removing solids from drilling mud is to pass the mud over the surface of a vibrating screen. Particles smaller than the openings in the screen pass through the holes of the screen along with the liquid phase of the mud. Particles too large to pass through the screen are thereby separated from the mud for disposal. Basically, a screen acts as a “go-no-go” gauge:  Either a particle is small enough to pass through the screen or it is not.
Screening Surface. Screening surfaces used in solids control equipment are generally made of woven wire screen cloth, in many different sizes and shapes. The following characteristics of screen cloth are important in solids applications.
Screens may be constructed with one or more LAYERS. NON-LAYERED screens have a single screen cloth mounted in a screen panel. These screens will have openings that are regular in size and shape. Drilling fluid is classified as water base utilizing water as the liquid phase. The solid phase of any drilling fluid is either commercial solids or drilled solids. Most commercial solids such as bentonite have a relative particle size of less than one micron. (.000039 inches).

Drilled solids are those particles that enter the mud system in the form of cuttings from the bit or back reamer or from borehole debris. These solids vary in size from less than one micron & larger depending on the carrying capabilities of the drilling fluid.
