Solidification and stabilization are separate treatment techniques with similar goals. Solidification of wastes involves the production of a solid mass having sufficiently high structural integrity to allow transport and/or disposal of the solid without requiring secondary containment, i.e. mixing of sludge with shredded paper, sawdust, etc.

This technique converts hydrologic sensitive liquid and semi-liquids waste in a physical form that can be stored safely and conveniently. Stabilization, however, involves the immobilization of constituents in wastes by chemical alteration to form insoluble compounds, or by entrapment within the solidified product. The Stabilization/Solidification systems provide an effective method for processing oil-base waste producing an environmentally safe, dry material that is acceptable for onsite burial, land farming or disposal at an approved waste facility. The most commonly used industrial systems are lime based, cement based, silicates based, clay based, pozolanic and thermoplastic.

Both Stabilization and solidification are classified as fixation processes applied to oil waste when the main purpose is to immobilize, isolate, or in some other way contain the contaminant from solids or semisolids waste.

In both cases the target is:

• 1. Improve the handling and physical characteristics of the waste
• 2. Reduce the surface area available for transferring or losing the contaminant and restricting the fluid mobilization through the total volume of hard matrix
• 3. Reduce the contaminant’s solubility into the waste volume

The mud system is mainly used to treat the water based mud drilling waste discharged from shale shaker, desander cyclones & desilter cyclones. GN Solids Control is big producer for solids control equipment & drilling waste management equipment. As oil price going down, the solids control market become cold because of rig stop drilling, fund problem etc. Under this background, GN Solids Control put forward series of policy to support the market and to support the sales amount.

Policy 1: GN Solids Control will expand drilling waste management market and stock some equipment to give quicker response. GN high G shaker for water based mud drilling cuttings treatment, have two models for choose. One model is only High G shaker without beneath tank.  In this case, the operator should design one cement pit or separate mud tank to hold the liquid part after High G shaker.  The other model is High G shaker with beneath tank for fast use.

After High G shaker, high speed and variable speed centrifuge will be used for fine solids separation. GN Solids Control design decanter centrifuge with height adjustable skid for convenient use.

Recently, we have one drilling waste management service customer who buys 1 sets high G shaker with beneath tank and 1 set variable speed centrifuge with high skid. The detailed technical specifications as below:

1) High G shaker with beneath tank: The shaker is GNZS594HGE-LD shaker with 4 panel shaker screen (composite material frame screen and steel frame screen both available). The drying time should be longer than 2 panel or 3 panel shaker, and the performance should be much better. The shaker with hopper type feeding, total height is much lower than weir type feeding or box type feeding, match better with drilling cuttings treatment job.

Shale shaker is the first stage solids control equipment for oil & gas drilling mud system. The large volume of wearing parts on shale shaker is shaker screen. As America supplier shaker screen is very high cost, many drilling company source shaker screen from China. But some China supplier always gets complaint from end users. Why?

Yesterday, GN Solids Control dispatch a big batch of solids control centrifuge & vertical dryer, with pumps, screw conveyors, spare parts etc, totally by 7 12meter long vehicles. The customers is international drilling company with large quantity of land rigs & some workover rigs. After tested GN centrifuge in jobsite, this old customer buys more and more solids control equipment package from us from last year.

For this order, the detail of purchase order is below:

1) 6 sets decanter centrifuge, which will be used for 3 rigs. The centrifuge will be used for barite recovery and mud weight cutting. GN Solids Control centrifuge learn and upgrade many highlights from Alfa Laval, the good frame centrifuge brand from Germany. Now, we have upgrade to 3rd generation centrifuge. The price is good and performance is much better than before.

GN Centrifugal pumps with star-delta starting control panel are widely used in different jobsites in oil & gas field. The centrifugal pump can used for mixing bentonite, transferring drilling mud in solids control system, charging mud pump and working instead of mud pump is some special cases.

1) The pump control panel

For small pump with below 22kw motor, generally direct starter is OK.

For bigger pump with motor between 30kw to 75kw, star-delta starter is necessary. These kinds of starter will lead to high prompt start current and then the current will go down to normal degree after normal operation.

For larger pump with above 55kw motor, soft starter is recommended for easier operation. These kinds of starter current will arise smoothly and no need much bigger generation to match.
