In some development company where the government did not have strict regulation on environment protection, they even do not use any mud system, and let the drilling fluids discharged directly.  How do 150gpm portable mud cleaning system work?

A: 50YZ40-10 Submersible slurry pump suck mud from the mud pit and feed to GNZS85-2 Shale shaker from the backside buffer box.

B:Shale Shaker first panel fixed with API 60 screen. Fluids from the slurry pump will flow to screens for solids screening. Fluids with particles only smaller then 250microns will go to tank 1# Compartment.

C:Shale Shaker second screen panel fixed with API 120 screen. SB3×2-12 Centrifugal pump will suck fluids from 1# Compartment and feed to 2x4inch desilter cones.The dirty mud will drops down to second screen panel for drying from the cones nipple,the cleaning fluids with particles under 20microns overflow from desilter pipe to the 2# compartment.

D:2# compartment fluids with 20microns solids separated can be feed to mud pump for drilling .

New development of GN

1 now we have a new mud cleaner to replace the shale shaker and desilter, it is with more compact structure than 2 equipments, its function equal to shale shaker and desilter, and large capacity shaker can process the drilling fluids drier, the separated solids can be shipped directly by the trailer.

2 now we have hydraulic lift mud system in production, if it is not convenient to rent a crane in the drilling site, the user can use the hydraulic lift device to lift the mud system first, then use the trailer to transport it directly.

Drilling mud is used to control subsurface pressures, lubricate the drill bit, stabilize the well bore, and carry the cuttings to the surface, among other functions. Mud is pumped from the surface through the hollow drill string, exits through nozzles in the drill bit, and returns to the surface through the annular space between the drill string and the walls of the hole.

Drilling mud separation system

As the drill bit grinds rocks into drill cuttings, these cuttings become entrained in the mud flow and are carried to the surface. In order to return the mud to the recirculating mud system and to make the solids easier to handle, the solids must be separated from the mud. The first step in separating the cuttings from the mud involves circulating the mixture of mud and cuttings over shale shakers.

The liquid mud passes through the screens and is recirculated back to the mud tanks from which mud is withdrawn for pumping downhole.

Additional mechanical processing is often used in the mud pit system to further remove as many fine solids as possible because these particles tend to interfere with drilling performance. This mechanical equipment usually belongs to one of three types: 1) desilters and desanders, 2) mud cleaners 3) rotary bowl decanting centrifuges. The separated fine solids are combined with the larger drill cuttings removed by the shale shakers.

 What is the features of GN mud circulation system?

1 It consists of GN new designed BEM shaker, GNZJ703 mud cleaner, LW450x1000N decanter centrifuge, mixing hopper and mixing pump, the complete electric control panel and tank accessories( stairs, handrails, slide walkways, mud pipeline, clean gate, etc)

 2 Process of GN mud circulation system

  First, drilling mud is flowed into the buffer box of the shale shaker through mud divided equipments, then entered the 2 sets of BEM shale shaker, after treated drilling mud flowed into shaker compartment, which is sand trap designed.

  #1 centrifugal pump feeds the mud from shaker compartment to desander cone of mud cleaner, then the clean mud droped into desander compartment;

  #2 centrifugal pump feeds the mud from desander compartment to desilter cone, then the clean mud droped into desilter compartment.

   The submersible slurry pump feeds the mud from desilter compartment to the centrifuge, to separate solids particle size 2~5μm. Now the clean mud can be used directly for drilling through pipelines, or weighten by mixing hopper. After weighten drilling fluids, they can be recycled and re-used in the drilling operations.

In some applications, the mud circulating system is equal to solids control system, but the full mud circulating system in drilling work, contains more. Except for the four phase, five equipments as we know, shale shaker, vacuum degasser, desander and desilter (or mud cleaner), decanter centrifuge. There also include mud pump, electric generator, control panel, chemical reagent treatment unit, and so on.

As we all know the quality and charactor of the drilling fluid effects the drilling works. The viscosity, density, fluid loss control, sand content, gel strength, and so on. The drilling fluid system is used to control them.
If not use the drilling fluid system correctly, effiently, there must be some trouble. High fluid density causes pressure in the formation of the borehole. This pressure drives the drilling fluid through the filter cake into the formation, leads to excessive drilling fluid loss to the formation, and extends well development time required to remove the mud from the formation. As the fluid density increases, the pressure required to move the fluid up the borehole also increases, leading to high mud pump pressure requirements.

High solids or sand content also leads to significant abrasion in the drill tooling as the fine particles are recirculating through the mud pump and drill string. Washed out drill strings and mud pump valves/seats, along with leaking swivel packing, are caused by the recirculation of sand through the system. If the gravel pack is emplaced in the annulus through drilling fluid with a high sand content, the fines will be entrained in the gravel pack leading to increased well development costs and reduced well yields.
